Immobilization of Metals in Fired Clay Brick Incorporated with Aluminium-Rich Electroplating Sludge: Properties and Leaching Analysis

Electroplating sludge is the hazardous waste discarded from plating and extractive metallurgical process which can only be disposed of at a secured landfill. In this study, physical mechanical properties, as well metal leaching analysis, fired clay brick incorporated with electroplating (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% 10%) were determined. The properties bricks, such firing shrinkage, dry density, initial rate absorption, water absorption compressive strength, tested according to British standard 3921:1985 EN772:1. Furthermore, leachability was determined by using toxicity characteristic procedure (TCLP) method 1311. results show that utilization an electroplating-sludge up 4% could enhance reducing 18.3% 16.1% increasing strength 25.6 MPa 41.6 MPa. result also aluminium-rich into most suitable amount, it leached less concentration complied USEPA standards. metals present in (aluminium iron) drastically reduced 193,000 ppm 0.1372 4160 0.144 ppm, respectively.
